Background

Trevor became frustrated at the difficulty he had in locating the type of support he needed to assist him in his role as an unpaid carer.  So he decided to do something about it and came up with the idea of running a roadshow in Nottingham. He booked a venue and arranged for 5 or 6 support  organisations to bring along some leaflets detailing their support services so the public could browse, take away information, be signposted to other support groups or make an apointment with a stallholder to discuss their needs.

2013-2019 Annual shows

The shows became very succesful. The number of shows increased year after year until 2019 when they ran weekly between May and September with the last one being held on behalf of Gedling Borough Council with more than 30 stallholders present.

Over these years more than 22,000 people visited. This led to thousands of ‘real time’ conversations about carers difficulties. The key points of these conversations were logged to provide decision makers in the NHS and Local Authorities with upto date ‘STREET TO STRATEGY’ information.

2020-2022 Covid and Virtual Roadshow

Covid restrictions stopped the shows, but rather than being beaten by it we went online and developed a VIRTUAL ROADSHOW. There are now over 80 presentions on our YouTube channel providing information about a wide range of support.
In addition Healthwatch Bury liked the idea they have set up their own Virtual Roadshow channel.

2023  Restart +

The live shows returned. We held 19 shows between 12th May and 23rd August. Starting in Newark and travelling to various venues in Nottingham, Mansfield, Retford, Worksop, Hucknall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and West Bridgford.

The shows moved into Yorkshire with NHS England General Practice Nurses organising and succesfully running shows in Barnsley, Leeds and Sheffield.

2024 Highlights

The 2024 shows commenced in Newark on Friday 10th of May and ran until Thursday 22 August. The final show of 2024 was in West Bridgford which was our 150th show since we started in 2013.
A list of stallholders for each of the 15 shows in Nottinghamshire can be seen in the Gallery section. 

There were 225 stallholders from 84 different organisations represented at the 15 shows.  The shows generated over 5000 visitors who in turn collected over 7000 leaflets describing support services. 757 referrals for care support were made. These referrals are the important part as people were able to find appropriate support who otherwise may not have been able to do so if the were no shows.  This is the Caring Roadshows in action.

The Barnsley show ran again in 2024 with the organisers being shortlisted for a national award.

We have developed an easy to follow step by step guide on how to set up and run your own show and am pleased to say two organisations took advantage of this guide and ran their own shows this year.

2025

The Nottinghamshire Shows are now being adminstered and run in partnership with Nottinghamshire Carers Association. https://nottinghamshirecarers.co.uk/

In addition to the Notttingham City and County shows he assisted with two other independent shows in Notts, three in North Lincolnshire, and one on South Yorkshire.

Awarded to Trevor in June 2025 by the King for his services to unpaid carers in Nottinghamshire as founder of the Caring Roadshows.
